| You wouldn't think so to look at me, what with the uniform and the hair on top of my head and all, but it's true. I'm not sure what kind yet, but I think maybe a cod.
To all those of you who know what that is, give yourselves a hug from me. To all those of you who don't, run out to the nearest book store and get yourselves a copy of "The Year of Secret Assignments" by Jaclyn Moriarty (or, if you happen to reside somewhere in Europe, search for "Finding Cassie Crazy").
I just walked outside. It's raining. Looking straight out the glass of the back door, you can't even see it; it looks calm and gray and cool. Then you walk out and you hear it, and it sounds like rain and you think maybe it is, because leaves just don't fall that fast. You step out onto the wood of the porch, feeling that cool dampness seep into the soles of your bare feet and you are shocked to find that it is raining right there on your back porch and you are getting wet. I love it. I feel clean, standing there, even though I'm in need of a shower. It's one of those days today; the kind of day that's cool and fresh and crisp, squeaky clean. The kind of day for deep breathing and barefooted bike rides. It's beautiful.
I'm Hope. You can call me that, or hope[less]. Or Alice, or hl, or whatever you like. Just keep it nice. I'm sweet until you're not. Isn't everyone like that? I'm not easily offended, so you don't have to worry about me.
I write, obviously. I write a lot. I'm working on filling up another journal and a notebook in addition to the journal I've already filled and the many documents I have saved up on Word. I'm prone to long rambling and I'm distracted by what may seem to be the most meaningless thing, but later turns out to be an inspiration. I'm not too interesting. I live vicariously through my characters. I have this problem where I go around talking to them all the time. I walk past people and they look at me oddly when they hear me whispering to myself. It doesn't happen often, them looking at me strangely; like I said, I'm not too interesting. I'm pretty nondescript; the kind of person you bump into on a busy sidewalk and mumble an apology to, then forget two seconds later. You wouldn't even be able to tell the next person you ran into what color my hair was, or whether or not I had writing on my shirt. Whenever I'm not using my copious amounts of free time to write, I use it to read. I read so much it's bordering on unhealthy (I'm an insomniac. I think most writers are) but I'm not about to stop. I listen to a lot of music. All kinds. It's a fundamental part of my writing, and my iPod (3.63GB, a silver nano. One of the new ones? The ones that look like cute little rounded boxy rectangles?) is very nearly full (100MB or something like that left...111?). My current favorites are Brand New, Bright Eyes, and Regina Spektor. Right at this very moment I am listening to Utada Hikaru ("I Love You" is the title and the only thing she says in English throughout the entire song). I don't really care that I have no idea what she's saying. I love her anyway. I have a fanfiction account. I don't have much on there, just two little things for Twilight. I'm a one-shot kind of girl, but I'm on the verge of putting some new stuff up on there. I have a fictionpress, too; there's only old stuff on there, though. No Crooked. And yeah, Crooked's mine. There's a little piece of it in my signature; there always is. I'm passionately attached to it; I plan on finishing it and publishing it. No one and nothing can stop me. My one goal in life is to get at least one book published. Hopefully more, of course, because I doubt that a single book would be enough to leave a lasting impact on the writing world and imprint my name as that of a famous author on history (I'm no Harper Lee, and Crooked is no "To Kill a Mockingbird").
This is the longest introductory post in the history of introductory posts. And you know something? I had to start it again, because my computer had a spazz attack and I freaked out and stared at the screen for twenty minutes, hoping against hope that if I looked long enough the damage would magically undo itself (overreacting impressively? I think not; everything is better the first time around). I've had my old computer fail enough times while I was on a roll, typing away, delighted with whatever it was to have developed a steady hatred of this occurance. I'm a forgiving person when it's convenient for me (selfish, I know. It happens.)
I'm looking forward to this place.

| Welcome to the Writer's Draft. Sorry, but my welcoming post won't be as long as yours here. That was quite an introductory post! I've heard a few Utada Hikaru songs, they are beautiful. I'm deeply sorry your computer had a spazz attack and your amazing first introductory post was gone.
I'm sure you're going to love this place just fine! The people are all great, and easy to get along with. | |
